Nothing beats a good show for inspiration. Except sometimes a bad show. But last night was a good one. I saw Second City's Red Scare at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. A cast of six with a lot of short, bright sketches and later, some improvisation. A lot of talent and a lot of creativity. A minimalist set of six entranceways, a handful of chairs to create flexible settings, and just enough costumes and hand props as were absolutely necessary. I always enjoy this type of acting where almost everything is supplied by the actors' words, actions, and skills. Elaborate sets are fun, but even more fun are actors who fire your imagination, enabling you to see sets, costumes, and props that aren't there.
